The April 20th holiday is rapidly approaching, and we are more excited than ever at Zaza Green. We have been counting down the minutes until we can offer fun activities and 420 deals that can’t be missed. Specials and events will be held throughout the weekend leading up to April 20th.
What is 4/20?
The term 420 has become well-known since the 1990s. Events began popping up after an article in the magazine “High Times” reported the legend surrounding 420 in 1991. In the article, the author traced back 420 to a group of teens living in San Rafael, California, called the “Waldos.” In the early 1970s, the teens would meet up at 4:20 to search for a weed crop that was being grown in the woods near their high school. Although they never found the crop, they kept using the term 420 as a reference to smoking pot.
The phrase 420 caught on when one of the Waldos became a roadie for the Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh. At the Grateful Dead shows, the slang caught on as fliers were passed around stating that individuals should meet at “4:20 for 420ing.” Celebrations started popping up all over the country on April 20th, and events continue today.
Along with planned events to recognize 420, advocates would later begin to use April 20th as a chance to spread the word about the importance of cannabis legalization. Each state has different laws regarding recreational and medical usage of marijuana. For instance, Massachusetts permits recreational cannabis with individuals able to carry up to one ounce of cannabis flower. Protests and educational forums on April 20th helped with decriminalizing cannabis and making it more acceptable on a national level.

We will have products that appeal to newcomers to cannabis as well as seasoned fans.
- Tasty Eats: We know you’ll be hungry as you hang out at our dispensary throughout the weekend of 420. We have booked vendors to come out and offer up some delicious food to keep the munchies away.
- Exclusive Giveaways: Our 420 event will give us a chance to give back to you, our valued customers. We will have prizes and giveaways on merchandise, products, gift cards, and more. All guests will have the chance to win something when they stop by our dispensary. We’ve created exclusive swag that we’re excited to reveal as we celebrate 420.
- Music and Vibes: Last year, our DJ was very popular with the crowd, spinning tracks all through the afternoon. Expect more of the great vibes when you come to our dispensary for the April 20th weekend.
